With price hikes and development costs haunting both developers and customers, they can now see a ray of hope with digital delivery method at their disposal. Martyn Brown, the director of Team 17 Studio explained the advantages of digital delivery method for both parties in an exclusive interview to a popular gaming site.
Digital delivery system was beneficial for customers as it provided a better value for money and reliable delivery system that they can trust. Developers will also have much to rejoice as the system grants them higher royalties. But, this doesn’t mean that retail market is completely beaten by digital delivery. While retail markets remain the old-fashioned way of selling games, digital delivery is like a new-born baby which provides developers with an opportunity to interact with their gamers efficiently. Consumer demands can be easily known by efficient feedback system provided by digital delivery method.
The method is advantageous for both parties resulting in “win-win” situation, as he stated. Brown also pointed out that consumers are pretty sharp about game prices. The prices with digital delivery option should be reasonable enough to lure gamers. Realistic prices will provide developers a good opportunity to make profit without charging their consumers more.
Brown proved his point with an example of their own game, Worms. They maintained a pretty low price tag for Worms resulting in strong arguments with Microsoft. But, consumers were happy with it as the game reached the top 10 charts for multiple consoles. He also referred to iPhone as a potential market.
